BPI stands for the Building Performance Institute. The organization has a training format and a number of different designations. It teaches Building Science and the House as a System approach. BPI has the first recognized National program to train CAZ testing. This is a cornerstone in the House as a System approach. When we improve a home we want to consider the occupants health to any upgrades. BPI has a motto “ do no harm” which is instilled in its protocols for testing. The test in and test out while doing repairs is also a key component of BPI. Measuring how the upgrades effect other systems and insuring their is a synergy to the upgrade process.

BPI set and developed standard and is a leader in the Weatherization and Performance Contracting industry.

Hers Raters and BPI professionals often follow similar paths of training as much of the equipment we use is the same. The difference is often is Hers Raters are third party verifiers where as the BPI professional perform tests and repairs. BPI focuses on safety and HERS focuses on energy and compliance verification.
